Bringing Scandinavian & mid-century design sensibilities to Australian furniture

Smith & Thomas is a Melbourne based furniture studio inspired by Scandinavian and mid-century design, combining style, functionality, and native Australian reclaimed timber to create custom furniture pieces. We were commissioned to update its existing brand identity.

The new identity was designed to reflect the founders' distinct personalities through vibrancy, colour, and a tongue-in-cheek attitude. The ampersand as a logo represents the collaboration between themselves and the various designers they work with, and is also used as a maker’s mark to stamp each completed piece. Woodgrain graphics form supporting brand visuals, with the new branding overall representing the furniture with emphasis on joinery and craftsmanship.

 

The unique and playful identity has given the brand a competitive edge in an increasingly saturated market, attracting sales from industry trade shows and international buyers.
